THARPARKAR: Parts of Tharparkar received light rain and two of the six tehsils of the district received moderate rain on Wednesday.
According to Mithi Observatory of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), 22 millimetres of rain was recorded in the Chachro Tehsil on Wednesday. Other remote areas such as Chelhar and Wango also received showers on Wednesday.
This was the second monsoon rain in Chachro this season. On June 29, Chachro received 43 mm rainfall and Islamkot received 53 mm rainfall.
The Tharparkar district is divided into six tehsils — Mithi, Islamkot, Chachro, Diplo, Dahli and Nangarparkar. This southern district of Sindh has the lowest Human Development Index in Pakistan.
According to a study of the Pakistan Council for Research on Water Resources, the entire Thar Desert receives around one trillion litres of rainwater every year that is sufficient to meet its water needs if stored. However, 95 per cent of this rainwater is wasted due to a lack of adequate storage facilities.
