KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto on Sunday announced that his party would take up Marvi Sirmed’s issue in parliament, a statement issued by the party’s media cell said.
Condemning the behaviour of Senator Hafiz Hamdullah towards political commentator Marvi Sirmed, Bilawal “asked his sponsors to keep such character indoors before they spread degradation into the whole society”.
He also lauded Marvi “for bravely facing the situation and her defiance against the so-called religious scholars who didn’t learn how to behave and respect mothers and daughters of the nation”, the statement read.
“This incident should not go scot-free and even the religious scholars and Ulema should stand up because Hafiz Hamdullah’s behavior has been equally insulting and disgraceful for them and entire nation,” it added.
Marvi was almost hit by Hafiz Hamdullah, chairperson of Senate’s Committee on Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, during a live TV show on Friday.
In her social media post, she said that Senator Hafiz Hamdullah had interrupted, abused, and threatened her with violence during Nadia Mirza’s TV show.
